Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan visit the Biological Museum

In the afternoon of March 2nd, 2017, their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan visited the Biological Museum of VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi where preserves the specimens of white goby and Onagadori chicken—gifts from the Japanese Royal Family.

In the afternoon of March 2nd, 2017, their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan visited the Biological Museum of VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi where preserves the specimens of white goby and Onagadori chicken—gifts from the Japanese Royal Family. This is not only an important political event of Vietnam but also an honor of the entire staffs of VNU University of Science.

The royal couple was welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Noi - Rector of VNU University of Science; Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam - Director of Biological Museum and the staffs of the premises.

Devoted to the fresh water fish research, in the 70s, while conducting his essay, his majesty, who was then a prince, discovered a new species of white goby at Can Tho river, Vietnam. The specimen of the fish was sent to Biological musem under VNU by 1976.

During the visit, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam demonstrated process of receiving and preserving the two specimens to the royal couple.

About the meaning of the event, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam said: “The emperor’s visit bears a tremendously importance meaning on the aspect of politics, diplomatic as well as science. The emperor’s interest in the collection of the museum presents his passion for science and inspires the effort to protect, preserve the specimens to pass on for generations to come”.

The Biological Museum preserves hundreds of thousands of animal and plant specimens of Vietnam, the collection has been constructed since the 19th century. Many of which come from various regions of the world, donated by head of states, scientists and museums from other countries.
