VNU-HUS and Korea National Institute of Geographic Information promote cooperation in the field of geography and geospatial information technology

As geospatial information science plays an increasingly important role in modern society, there is a need to improve the quality of research and training in this field. Given this fact, an MOU was on June 28, 2022 between VNU-HUS and the Korea National Institute of Geographic Information, thus also helped strengthening their mutual relation in the future.

Attending the Signing Ceremony, on behalf of the Korean side, there was Mr. Sakong Hosang - Director of the Korea National Institute of Geographic Information; Mr. Lee Won Kuk - staff of the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea and Prof. Lee Seong Hwa - Lecturer at Daegu University, President of the Korea Cadastral Information Association.

On behalf of VNU-HUS, there was Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang - Vice Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Quang Thanh - Dean of the Faculty of Geography, staff, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Geography.

Mr. Sakong Hosang expressed his pleasure to sign an MOU between the Korea National Institute of Geographic Information and VNU-HUS, both are leading units in the field of geospatial data. Given the fact that there are similarities in their research and training activities, Mr. Sakong Hosang believed that close coordination and cooperation could be initiated in the near future in many fields, such as geospatial data, remote sensing data v.v.

In closing his speech, Mr. Sakong Hosang wished that the signing of this MOU would be a stepping stone for the Korea National Institute of Geographic Information, the University of Science (VNU) and its Faculty of Geography to have more opportunities to exchange technologies and knowledge in the future, further supporting Vietnam in the training of human resources in the field of geographic information.

For many years, the Faculty of Geography (VNU-HUS) and the Korea National Institute of Geographic Information had been cooperating effectively with many encouraging results, said Assoc. Dr. Ngac An Bang - Vice Rector VNU-HUS. So he hoped that with the MOU being signed this time, the relationship between Korea National Institute of Geoinformatics and VNU-HUS would reach a new level and bring more benefits to both sides.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang hoped that besides cooperating in geographical research, specifically geospatial and remote sensing, the Korea National Institute of Geographic Information could also support and participate more in training, especially graduate level, which would be the focus of VNU-HUS in the near future.

Mr. Sakong Hosang - Director of the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea gave a presentation to welcome this special event, with the following three topics:

  • Introduction to the 4.0 revolution with its core tenet of virtual reality;
  • Digital twin - technology for smart cities
  • Urban digital twins

Mr. Sakong Hosang's presentation attracted a lot of attention from staff, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Geography, VNU-HUS. Many questions were raised and discussed.
