On July 11, 2023, all three Vietnamese students claimed medals, including one silver medal and two bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2023 according to the Ministry of Education and Training.
Nguyen Tien Loc – an 11th grader and Tran Pham Manh – a 12th grader from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students won a silver medal and a bronze medal, respectively. The other bronze medal was secured by Vu The Anh, a 12th grader from Vinh Phuc High School for Gifted Students.
IBO 2023, the 34th of its kind, was held by the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain city on July 2-11, with the participation of 295 contestants from 80 countries and territories.
According to the Regulations of the IBO 2023, the contestants took 4 practical exams (Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology of Plants, Ecology and Behavior) on one test day; 2 theory tests on two different days. This year's exam was considered to be good and interesting but difficult, long, and had a lot of unfamiliar knowledge for Vietnamese candidates.
