In early September, Professor Katharina Fugelister, Head of International Relations at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne - EPFL), visited and worked with the leadership of the University of Sciences, VNU Hanoi. Welcoming and discussing with EPFL representatives were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice Rector; Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Noi, former Rector, and Director of the Key Laboratory for Advanced Materials for Green Growth; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Ngoc Anh, Director of the Natural Sciences Co., Ltd and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Thi Thuy, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Environment.
At the meeting, the leadership representatives of the University of Sciences discussed with EPFL representatives about research directions; and international cooperation relationships in research and training, with special emphasis on areas related to the environment and related fields.
The Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials for Green Growth, the Natural Sciences Company Limited, and the Faculty of Environment are currently three of the various units of the University of Sciences that have extensive research related to the environment and related fields. The unit's cooperative relationships in research and training are not limited to domestic partners but also include various prestigious organizations worldwide such as Japan, Korea, and Europe, with whom they have been cooperating effectively.
Prof. Katharina Fugelister highly appreciates the efforts and achievements that the University of Sciences has made in the field of environment. Impressed by this, the EPFL representative wishes to establish a closer relationship with the university, especially in the exchange of graduate students. EPFL suggests that both sides could jointly develop a cooperation proposal through the Swiss Embassy in the form of a memorandum.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang respectfully accepts the cooperation proposal from EPFL. The University of Sciences has had and continues to have various cooperations with countries worldwide, especially European countries. However, if the cooperation between the University and EPFL is successful, it would mark the first cooperation between the University of Sciences and an educational and research unit in Switzerland, making it an exceptionally significant milestone.
