Collaboration in Building and Developing an International Joint Training Program in Semiconductor Technology

In the context of globalization, international joint training is a trend that many countries and universities are interested in. The University of Sciences, VNU Hanoi has been and is currently promoting cooperation in building and developing an international joint training program in Semiconductor Technology with National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, China.

On August 16, 2023, the delegation from National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, China (NYCU) had a working session with the Board of Directors, representatives of the Department of Academic Affairs, and leaders of the Faculty of Physics, University of Sciences. Within the framework of the program, Prof.Dr. Yi Chang, Dean of the Faculty of International Semiconductor Technology, National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung  University, introduced and expressed a desire to collaborate in building an international joint training program in this field with VNU University of Sciences. Students will benefit from curricula offered by both VNU-HUS and NYCU. Upon completing the course, students will receive a degree issued by NYCU.

According to Prof.Dr. Yi Chang, NYCU is prepared to offer the best learning opportunities and conditions for students. The university plans to sponsor academic expenses while students study at NYCU.

Prof. Dr. Scs. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector of VNU-HUS, welcomes and expresses goodwill in cooperating in building and developing this training program. Prof. Dr. Scs. Vu Hoang Linh hopes that the two sides can exchange details to soon find common ground and reach an agreement on building an international bachelor’s degree joint training program.

At the meeting and discussion, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Tien Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs, shared about the international programs that the University of Sciences has organized and is currently running. Accordingly, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Tien Duc affirmed that students from the University of Sciences are competent, both professionally and in terms of foreign languages, to participate in international joint training programs like that proposed by NYCU.

After the working session with the Board of Rectors of the University of Sciences, the NYCU delegation had a separate working session with the leaders of the Faculty of Physics to discuss in more detail areas of cooperation. After the NYCU representative briefly presented the expected training program, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Nguyen Hai, former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physics, noticed that many subjects in the training program between the two sides were similar. This will be a favorable basis for cooperation in building an international joint program between the two universities in the coming time.

Prof.Dr. Nguyen The Toan, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, University of Sciences, shared his wish to consider transferring options to the master’s level in addition to undergraduate training cooperation. Accordingly, Prof.Dr. Nguyen The Toan proposed training models that help students shorten the time to complete their master's program. NYCU agreed and will study these options.

Based on many years of cooperation in the international master’s training joint training program in Semiconductor Technology, both the University of Sciences, VNU Hanoi, and NYCU wish to successfully build and develop a similar program at the undergraduate level in the upcoming academic year.
