VIETNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, HANOI (VNU) hosts the 2015 ASIAN students environmental platform (ASEP)

Implementing the cooperative plan between VNU and AEON Environmental Foundation (Japan), VNU hosted the 2015 Asian Students Environmental Platform taking place from August 3, 2015 to August 9, 2015 under the theme of “Biodiversity and Man”.

Attending the Platform Opening ceremony were Malaysia Ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Dato’ Azmil Mohd Zabidi,Envoy of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam Mr. Jun Yanagi, Vice President of AEON Group Mr. Shinya Wako, General Director of AEON Vietnam Co. Ltd. Mr. Ishikawa Tadahiko, General Director of the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs Department of International Cooperation Mrs. Lê Kim DungVNU Vice President Nguyễn Kim Sơn delivered a speech at the Ceremony.

Launched in 2012, ASEP is an annual program funded by AEON Environmental Foundation (AEON Group Environmental Foundation was established in 1990 for promoting environmental protection activities towards a green and sustainable social development aimed at raising awareness of the environment and environmental protection, ecosystem and biodiversity as well as providing students from Asian leading universities with an opportunity to exchange and learn from one another.

ASEP 2015 gathered 85 officials, faculty and students from 6 universities in 6 Asian countries, including Waseda University (Japan), Korea University (South Korea), Tsinghua University (China), the University of Malaya (Malaysia), the Royal University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Vietnam).

Opening the Ceremony, VNU Vice President Nguyễn Kim Sơn expressed his sincere thanks to AEON Group in general and AEON Environmental Foundation in particular and welcomed the officials, faculty and students from the 6 Asian universities participating in ASEP 2015 in Vietnam. Vice President Nguyễn Kim Sơn believed that this Platform would not only create opportunities for Asian universities to strengthen cooperation but also encourage and promote their joint activities in protecting the environment, conserving biodiversity, mitigating the impact of climate change, sustainably managing and using natural resources. VNU Vice President expected the students to become environmental ambassadors to contribute to the sustainable development of their respective countries, the region and the globe with their intellect, enthusiasm and creativity.

 

 

Speaking at the Platform, Vice President of AEON Group Mr. Shinya Wako highly appreciated VNU hosting ASEP 2015 and believed that through this Platform, the officials, faculty and students would have an opportunity to experience and expand their knowledge of the environment in general and biodiversity in Vietnam in particular, thereby proposing ideas, suggestions for biodiversity conservation.

 

 

Taking place from August 3, 2015 to August 9, 2015, this Platform focuses on the dependent relationship between diversity conservation and socio-economic development towards sustainability. As scheduled, the students will visit and explore environmental issues in Cúc Phương National ParkCát Bà Island, Hạ Long Bay and Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. The Platform is also expected to contribute to the training of future human resources capable of acute environmental research and observation, global vision for environmental and climate change issues.
