On the morning of February 10th, 2021, VNU - HUS organized the online opening ceremony of the 2021-2022 academic year for full-time students in the nationwide spirit of back-to-school. The ceremony was mainly hosted at the meeting hall on the 7th floor in T5 building, 334 Nguyễn Trãi, Thanh Xuân, Hà Nội.

Representatives attending VNU - HUS’ opening ceremonies were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Hải, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Vice President of VNU; Prof.Dr.Sc.Nguyễn Đình Đức, Director of VNU’s Academic Affairs, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Đinh Văn Dũng, Deputy Head of Student Affairs; representatives from VNU's Youth Union and VNU’s Student Association; along with representatives from other offices and functional units from VNU. In addition, there was also the presence of Rectors and Vice-Rectors of member universities of VNU, leaders of VNU Military and Security Training Center, representatives, and leading figures from several organizations, enterprises; and recruiters from various agencies.
Despite being an online ceremony, the flag salute was still carried out in proper manner and solemnity
From VNU – HUS, there were members from the party committee, VNU - HUS’ university board, the Labor Union, the Youth Union, the student association; heads of functional units and other units in VNU - HUS, and over 1800 new full-time students who passed the recent entrance exam.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh congratulated more than 1800 new students of QH.2021.T - Cohort 66 of VNU - HUS.

“The year 2021 was extremely difficult for the world in general and for Vietnam in particular. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the high school graduation exam had to be organized twice, with the second time taking place much later compared to previous years and therefore, this academic year’s opening ceremony had to be delayed for three weeks. But despite all that, all of you here managed to overcome the hardship of the pandemic to complete your high school education and pass the graduation exam. You have successfully become VNU - HUS students and enrolled in one of the 27 educational programs. You have become the pride and joy of your families, friends, and your teachers” - Mr. Linh remarked.

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Nguyễn Hoàng Hải, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Vice President of VNU, remarked: “VNU - HUS has a tradition of training associated with researches, and is a leading unit in VNU and in Vietnam in terms of scientific research, international publications and patents. While tertiary education already demands self-discipline in both studying and researching, online learning requires even more. But with the spirit of learning and the desire to master knowledge, lecturers, and students of VNU - HUS have and will overcome the hardship. I truly wish that after being trained here, you will become a better person, not just in terms of expertise, but also in terms of character and kindness.”
Representing new students of VNU - HUS, Lê Phạm Ngọc Lâm, a student from Long Thành, Đồng Nai who passed the 2021 entrance exam with the highest score, currently studying in the Bachelor of Science in Physics for talented students, expressed his feeling: “I harbored the dream of studying at VNU - HUS because of its long tradition of scientific research. It is an honor to be admitted here, but it is also a pressure to me. I promise to overcome all pressures, to hone myself to be a student with decent abilities and morality.
Đinh Vũ Tùng Lâm, on behalf of the new students, presented flowers to a representative of VNU - HUS’ university’s leaders.
To promote the spirit of learning, VNU - HUS awarded certificates and prizes for 12 students who achieved excellent results in the National Student Olympiads for the academic year of 2020 - 2021, and for 3 new students who achieved high scores in the national high school exam in 2021. Newly admitted students who won International Olympiad prizes also received souvenirs from the school.

In 2021, VNU - HUS admitted students for 27 training programs (Chemistry, Information Technology, including 6 advanced and fast-tracked programs according to the scheme with tuition fees corresponding to training quality (Chemistry, Computer and Information Science, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Environmental engineering technology). These are all training programs oriented for practical application that equips students with practical skills that increase their job opportunities and have been highly appreciated by the public.
Among the students who became VNU - HUS students of QH.2021.T - Cohort 2021, many students had excellent academic records in their high school education, such as Trương Tuấn Nghĩa – gold medalist at the International Mathematical Olympiads 2020, silver medal in 2021, who is now studying Mathematics at VNU - HUS. Đinh Vũ Tùng Lâm, the silver medal winner at the International Mathematical Olympiads 2021, currently studying Mathematics major; Trang Đào Công Minh gold medalist at the International Physics Olympiads 2021, studying Physics major; Phạm Đức Nam Phương, gold medalist at International Chemistry Olympiads 2021, studying Chemistry major. In addition, many other students who won high prizes in national level competitions for science and technology have been admitted to the university.

From the academic year of 2020-2021, VNU - HUS has implemented pilot training of 5 new interdisciplinary programs based on fundamental sciences, which is its strength but also very suitable with the development trend of Industrial Revolution 4.0. These programs have been attracting quite a lot of students.

In keeping with the 65-year tradition with a renowned high-quality training and research quality of a leading university in the field of basic science in Vietnam, VNU - HUS has been striving to become an advanced research university, with training and research quality in some fields on par with advanced universities in the region and the world.
Up to now, VNU - HUS has had 13 training programs evaluated and accredited by AUN-QA Standards. In October 2021, VNU - HUS will organize an external evaluation for 3 more training programs: Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Management of Resources and Environment, bringing the number of internationally accredited training programs to 16, achieving 100% of the set-out plan.
