VNU-HUS celebrates its 65th anniversary

On the morning of November 20th, while the whole country was celebrating all the teachers following the tradition of “reverence for teachers and morality", University of Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-HUS) held a ceremony celebrating its 65th anniversary and received the Third Class Labor Medal for the second time.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremony was held online, only a few delegates attended in person.

Attending the ceremony were leaders of the MOET, leaders of VNU, and representatives of functional boards and member units. On the side of the University of Science and Technology, there were teachers who are former leaders of the university, teachers in the Party Committee and Board of Directors, the Planning and Investment Council, the Association of former teachers, heads of member units, representatives of partners, alumni, students, and all employees.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, the Rector, sent his gratitude and health wishes to all the lecturers and staff who have been working and contributing to the construction of the former University of Hanoi, now VNU-HUS.

“During the past 65 years, having received special attention from Party and State leaders at all levels, VNU-HUS defines its mission as: “a research university that trains high-quality human resources, fosters talents, researches, develops and transfers knowledge in the field of natural sciences, contributing to the construction, development, and protection of the country” with a vision “to become an advanced research university in Asia by 2035”. To fulfill this mission, the University has always been a pioneer in the cause of higher education innovation, especially in the fields of training, scientific research and staff development” – said Assoc.Prof.Dr.KH. Vu Hoang Linh.

On behalf of MOET leaders, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister, praised and congratulated VNU-HUS on its great results, achievements, and contributions in recent years, and also on being awarded the Third Class Labor Medal for the second time on the occasion of its 65th anniversary.

Prof. Dr. Le Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of VNU made a speech in recognition of the contribution of VNU-HUS to the development of VNU and pointed out two key tasks that the university needs to focus on for the coming time: Training talents in the field of natural sciences for the country and Improving the quality of basic scientific research, promoting innovation.

MOET’s Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son awarded the Third Class Labor Medal (2nd time) to the university and awarded the title of Excellent Teacher to Prof. Dr. Pham Chi Vinh (Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanical - Informatics); the Third Class Labor Medal to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Vice Dean of the Department of Biology, and Dr. Pham Van Quoc, Vice Principal of High School for the Gifted.

On behalf of the teachers, People’s teacher Prof. Dr. Bach Thanh Cong (Faculty of Physics) shared: the University of Hanoi is the cradle of basic scientific research training, where many famous scientists in the country and in the world were trained. Being a teaching staff of this university is a great pride and honor for me as well as many other colleagues.

On behalf of the students, Nguyen Bao Ngoc, a graduate student of the QH-2019 majoring in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, gave flowers to the Deputy Minister of MOET, the President of VNU, and the Rector of VNU-HUS on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers' Day (November 20) and expressed deep gratitude to all the teachers.

VNU-HUS, formerly known as the University of Hanoi, was established in 1956. After 65 years of construction and growth, generations of teachers and students have written glorious pages of history. Along with the history of the nation, the former University of and the current Hanoi University of Sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi have made great contributions to the cause of national construction and defense and to the development of higher education and scientific research in the country.
