Potential for cooperation between the University of Waterloo, Canada and Hanoi University of Sciences, VNU

On the morning of March 20, 2023, a meeting was held between representatives of VNU-HUS leaders and the University of Waterloo, Canada.

On behalf of VNU-HUS, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice Rector, and representatives of the leaders of the Faculties of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Geology, Environment and the Department for Development & Cooperation.

On behalf of University of Waterloo, Ms. Amelia Burton, Deputy Director of the Department for International Cooperation Department, shared that this was the first time she had visited and worked with VNU-HUS. However, before this meeting, she had had the opportunity to grant scholarships to students of High School for the Gifted of Natural Sciences, VNU-HUS. Ms. Amelia Burton highly appreciated the ability of students at High School for the Gifted. According to her, they were smart and excellent students, and their achievements at the international Olympic competitions as well as other international competitions were simply impressive. During that visit, the University of Waterloo awarded scholarships to outstanding students and currently, a number of students from the High School for the Gifted of Natural Sciences are studying at the University of Waterloo.

Therefore, the University of Waterloo wishes to further develop relationships with VNU-HUS. With strengths in the basic sciences, earth and life sciences, the University of Waterloo is currently a leading research university in Canada. With many similar teaching and research fields with VNU-HUS, the University of Waterloo is looking forward to establishing a cooperative relationship with it.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang expressed his agreement in establishing a cooperative relationship between VNU-HUS and the University of Waterloo, Canada.

On behalf of VNU-HUS, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang shared his delight for being able to build a partnership with the University of Waterloo. According to him, besides fields such as Mathematics, Information Technology, Physics, it was also very important to develop cooperation in the fields of Earth Science, Life Science and Environmental Science.  

According to him, one of the first steps for building a cooperative relationship between the two universities was to develop online lecture programs. The co-organization of online lectures would create opportunities for lecturers and students of the two universities to interact and exchange ideas, so that together, they would find a common ground for cooperation and development.

The two sides agreed that in the near future, representatives of the two universities would discuss and agree to deploy an online seminar, creating conditions for staff of the two universities to learn more about the opportunities for cooperation that could leverage the strengths of both.

Within the meeting, leaders of the various faculties also briefed on their respective strengths as well as their main research and teaching directions. This was an opportunity for representatives of the University of Waterloo to better understand the member units in the VNU University of Natural Sciences. Hopefully in the near future, there will be further development in the cooperation relationship between the two universities.
