Launch Ceremony for the Masters in Semiconductor Technology Training Program

On the 17th of June, 2019, VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) cooperated with the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan (NCTU) to organize the Launch Ceremony for the Master of Technology in Semiconductor Technology program at 334 Nguyen Trai Street, Hanoi.

This is the first joint training program offered internationally by NCTU. The program is expected to open for enrollment in 2019 and is taught entirely in English by top lecturers from the two universities. The enrollment target for the first course is 30 students.

Overview of the Ceremony

The ceremony was attended by  Prof. Dr. Chang, Mau Chung (Frank Chang) - President and representatives of the Faculties of NCTU. Representatives of VNU-HUS included Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi - Rector, Assoc. Prof. Sc. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh - Vice Rector, and Deans of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Physics, along with the Heads of the Office of Administration - International Relations, the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs. Numerous students also attended.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi - Rector of VNU-HUS convened the opening speech

Speaking at the Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi - Rector of VNU-HUS stressed that "Semiconductor Technology is an area of interest in Vietnam but there are not many places for formal training. VNU-HUS is honored to cooperate with NCTU to implement the training program for the Master of Technology in Semiconductor Technology, which is also the first NCTU program to be offered abroad”. The Rector hopes that cooperation with NCTU, the leading university in Semiconductor Technology, will attract and enhance more new professions for graduate students and PhD students.

The Master of Technology in Semiconductor Technology program aims to develop the semiconductor industry, which is on the list of national key products and had received significant attention from the Government of Vietnam. Advances in Semiconductor Technology have helped the world optimize systems, reduce equipment and save energy, helping to protect the global environment.

At the Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Chang, Mau Chung - President of NCTU shared that “Semiconductor Technology is at the core of knowledge of science and technology, combining Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and other basic sciences. Semiconductor Technology is also at the core of High Technology for the future. This cooperation program not only strengthens the cooperative relationship between the two universities but also brings the industries of the two countries together to achieve a great leap towards a brighter future".

The Master of Technology in Semiconductor Technology training program has been carefully prepared with the participation of leading lecturers from the two universities. Students will be offered many opportunities to receive scholarships awarded by NCTU and Taiwanese companies, to participate in research, and to gain valuable experience. This creates job opportunities for graduates of the program at large corporations from Taiwan with starting salaries from $ 1600 - $ 2000.

This training program will also generate talented candidates for PhD programs, developing postgraduate teaching and research opportunities for Vietnam and Taiwan. The affiliate program is the foundation of the development cooperation between NCTU and VNU-HUS, providing a springboard for other programs that will be developed in Vietnam between NCTU and VNU-HUS in the future.
